Frequently Asked Questions About MoGoes

What are the MoGoes Modules and how can I use them?

There are four modules that can contain information on your local POIs and Events

  • Tours - Itineraries that you can build of your area. Tour itineraries are made up of POIs and are selected based on categories.
  • Discover - Categorized listings of the individual POIs. Any POI used in a tour will also show up in this area. Users can browse POIs and use them to build their own custom itineraries.
  • Best Bets - Quick picks of the "must see" attractions in your area.  Best Best are the POIs that people just can't miss while exploring your area!
  • Events - Updated events happening in your area. These events can be fed from your existing calendars of events or added individually by POIs.  Events are associated to POIs so people always know what is going around them.

Location and Account - These are administrative areas of the system that allow MoGoes to provide users with the ability to create and update custom tours, set their current location and share their tours with friends.

Where does MoGoes content come from?

MoGoes system works on the concept of "layered information." The first layer of data is provided by our partner, TeleAtlas. TeleAtlas is a premier provider of geospatial data that connects a point of interest with basic information such as latitude and longitude, name, address, phone number and categories. This database of over 30 Million POIs worldwide will automatically place most of the businesses in your area into the MoGoes system.

As valuable as TeleAtlas' data is, it is only the beginning. Traveler's to an area need much more than just a name and address to truly experience your location; they need information that can assist them in making valuable decisions about how they will spend their time and where they will spend their money. Information like text, stories, photos, video, audio, maps, events, coupons and more. Some of this information may already exist in your databases, which can be uploaded into the MoGoes system in a variety of ways, such as:

  • Connect your Destination 3000 database - MoGoes has an exclusive agreement with SMI, makers of Destination3000 Travel CRM system, to seamlessly integrate much of the data in your D3000 database into the MoGoes system. This means that anything you already store in D3000 can be layered on top of the base level of data to provide descriptions of the POI, add photos and link to your event calendar.
  • Custom integrate your existing database - While not as seamless as the integration offered with SMI's product line, MoGoes can still integrate your database and content manually.

The next layer is content that is uploaded by the attractions themselves. Most DMOs have general information on many of the POIs in their area, but the POIs still know their business best. Bringing them into the mix to continually add and update content is the best way to build a valuable system.

The final layer of content for each POI is content related to POIs that are part of tours. Each POI has the potential to have multiple types of content attached to it based upon the category it appears in and it's placement within different tours. For example, imagine a POI that is an architecturally significant hotel that has played host to numerous famous people. Within the MoGoes system is may show up:

  • As a Hotel - Within the Accommodations category, where the listing would focus on contact information, available amenities and costs.
  • In an Architectural Tour - The POI would show information related to the famous architect who designed the building and show pictures of the ornate details that make it so unique.
  • In a Tour Entitled "Famous People Slept Here" - The POI would appear with information related to the presidents and performers who have stayed at the hotel, perhaps with pictures showing the presidential suite.

The information that is used in the first example will frequently come from the first three sources mentioned. The information in the second two examples is more likely to be custom created for specific tour offerings. When developing tours, it is important to keep in mind how and who will be writing and producing the custom content.

What is a MoGoes tour?

MoGoes are mobile media tours of locations or places in and around your city, region, location or attraction designed specifically for delivery via mobile handheld devices.

How long does it take to produce a MoGoes Tour?

A rich, mobile experience that spans the best your city has to offer can't happen overnight. Depending on the number of highlights you wish to include (say, 10 to 15 unique points of interest), intensive tours take 3-5 months to produce from start to finish.  Timelines are dependent upon weather and approval processes.

What is a Point of InterestI?

A "point of interest", or POI, is a specific point location that someone may find useful or interesting. An example is a point on the Earth representing the location of the Space Needle. In other words, a "point of interest" is an attraction or business in your city or area. It is a single attraction, like a museum, retail business, outdoor space, restaurant, monument, historical landmark, etc.

A MoGoes POI consists at the very minimum of the latitude and longitude of the POI, a name or description and usually an address and telephone number. Other information such as altitude, website address, hours of operation, special event information, images, audio and video can be inlcuded if the POI is upgraded to an enhanced listing.

How many "POIs" should the average tour contain?

As a general rule? No more than 10 in a single tour.

What are the benefits to "MoGoing" my city?

  • Personal and Relevant: MoGoes tours are built based on the visitor's interests and location so they always get something they want.

  • Generate Revenue: DMO's are free to mark-up the cost of the highlights and sell them to its members. The tour could actually pay for itself.
  • Health and Wellness: Improve the health of your visitors and population by encouraging them to walk and explore.
  • Environmentally Friendly: Mobile guides can serve to supplement or replace many of the paper guides you currently print. Creating a MoGoes tour can reduce waste in your community.
  • Cost-Effective: For the expense of printing just a few visitors' guides, you could build a whole city of MoGoes highlights.

  • Reach a Hard-To-Reach and Affluent demographic: Mobile phone users are a very attractive demographic with almost 55% of media-enabled users having an annual HHI of over $75,000.
  • Less to Carry Around: Books and maps are inconvenient for travelers to carry around. Now all that information can be available on their phone, in the palm of their hand with a MoGoes tour.

How is a MoGoes tour created?

Creating tours is as simple as identifying POIs within your area that you would like to link together. An itinerary can be up to 10 POIs in length for tours or linked together in segments of 10 POIs for longer tours. You may have already created tours that you want to repurpose for mobile delivery or you may want to create entirely new options. Tours are grouped by categories like "Have Family Fun", "Explore Neighborhoods", "See the Sights" and more. Your city may have a unique characteristic that will lend itself to a custom category, for example "I want to See Ghosts", or "I want to Explore Wineries." Itineraries can be built to accommodate walking, cycling and driving tours.

What is the cost of a MoGoes project?

Our cost structure varies based on the number of highlights you wish to include, and the types of rich media you'd like to use to bring your highlights (and mobile tours) to life. When we meet, we can easily "ballpark" figures based on what your goals are now, and in the future.

Can tours be created for special events?

Sure, we have found that MoGoes can be a great way to get people to experience your event. We would be happy to work with you on any event-based tours.
